Demanding Damage Compensation from Japan
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman made a speech on March 11, 1992, “The civilian victims during the Sino-Japanese war can directly demand damage compensation from Japan.”
When answering a Japanese reporter before his visit to Japan in April 1992, General Secretary Jiang Zemin said, “The Chinese government has given up war reparations against Japan, but doesn’t restrict the civilian victims from demanding compensation from Japan.”
After Xiangxian fell in the winter of 1939 during Japan’s war of aggression against China, 74 people (including 67 males and 7 females) from Shizhaizhuang were killed by the Japanese army, and 232 houses with a total area of 3,159 square meters were burned, along with other losses (including grain, clothes, cattle, pigs, chicken and ducks, etc.). Therefore, we strongly demand compensation from Japan.
