I have received your letter dated December 13 last year, after I read your letter and the attached materials, they further boosted my confidence and determination to take part in this damage compensation campaign against Japan organized by you. As a result, I once issued ‘Open letter on soliciting “Demanding damage compensation from Japan” signatures and investigating damage conditions sustained by Yangqu people’ to Yangqu people in my personal name, and prepared and issued “Survey table of civilians killed by Japanese Army in Yangqu County” and “Signature table of Yangqu people for demanding damage compensation from Japan”, which I together sent to all towns and villages in the whole county. Currently, this activity has stirred up storing repercussion across the whole county, many people have signed their names, a lot of people voluntarily joined the survey, collected witnesses and evidences, surviving family members of quite a few victims also came to denounce crimes of the Japanese Army who killed their family members, and strongly demanded Japan to give compensation. I have grasped the exact date, venue, and code number of the offending Japanese troops, name of their chief officers for several hundred victims who were killed, ravaged and disabled by the Japanese Army, and is continuing the survey in the whole county.
Japanese Army occupied Yangqu for as long as eight years, the number of killed Yangqu people is innumerable, in District 1, 3, 5 of West Yangqu alone (back then Yangqu County included two counties of West Yangqu and East Yangqu, totaling ten districts), the Japanese Army killed 818 persons, injured and disabled 444 persons, burned and destroyed 4839 houses, looted 3930 heads of cattle, looted 66900 heads of pigs, sheep and chicken, looted 190,000 silver dollars, plundered 19500 pieces of gold and silver jewelry, damaged 4 factories, 140 workshops, 5 coal kilns, 30 schools, 135 temples, resulting in people’s economic loss worth 9,350,000 silver dollars. Whereas the damage sustained by East Yangqu due to killing, looting and destruction by the Japanese Army was even worse than those of West Yangqu. During the invasion period the Japanese Army brought irreparable huge loss to Yangqu people, so Yangqu people firmly demand Japan to offer damage compensation for two thousand civilians they killed, several dozen thousand house properties and several dozen million yuan worth of economic loss during the invasion period.
I hereby send partial damage details of Yangqu people collected by myself and my colleagues to you, afterwards I will continue to send you such materials, I sincerely hope you can consolidate belief, steadfastly negotiate with Japan on behalf of Chinese victims, and strive to claim back compensation which is overdue for Chinese victims.

History of Japanese Invasion in Blood and Tears
I am Shi Shuangqing, now aged 79, a native of Dayu Village, Yangqu County, Taiyuan City, Shanxi. I hereby describe the persecution of my family during the Japanese invasion period in order to settle the account with the Japanese side.
I. Around the Mid-autumn Festival of the 26th year of the Republic of China, the Japanese Army burned our field gate when passing our village, after entering the field they set fire to the 50 mu (about 3.33 hectares) piled cereal, burned one field house, one gate, two live pigs, plus furniture worth 3500 yuan.
II. My wife was Qiao Haixian, then aged just 18, before we got married, the Japanese forced her to live in the place where they were stationed for as long as two years, later we divorced.

On October 22, the District Anti-Japanese Squad had a battle with the Japanese on the Front Street along the river, two Japanese soldiers who lost their way came to Nanzhuang, on October 23 they fired shots in the direction of East Hanhu, the Japanese stationed in East Hanhu came to Nanzhuang, then they began a massacre, some villagers were brought to Hanhu and frozen to death, some were brought to Xiyan and stabbed to death, some were killed in the village, back then a monk in our village compiled a song:
On October 23, Nanzhuang suffered disaster, the Japanese Army burned and killed and looted, lives were sent to heaven, Guo Manfu was burned in Wujiapo, Ying Erhai and others were frozen to death, what a horrible…….
