Chinese Victim’s Letter of Claim for Damage Compensation from Japan

Japanese government,

Japan invaded China during 1931 and 1945. After the Japanese army occupied Fenghua and Ninghai of Zhejiang, my family went to Dacai Village, Ninghai County to make a living due to poverty. The Japanese army committed all kinds of crimes in Ninghai County such as beating, capturing, robbing, raping and killing the people and burning houses.

On April 1, 1942, when my mother Yang Liannv, then 29, tried to escape with my aunt Wang Qinnv, a Japanese soldier shot my mother in her legs. My mother bled heavily and died and my aunt was seriously injured. My aunt is now 78 and still alive. My father escaped and I saw him one year later, but he died of illness. The Japanese army also burned down my family’s 3 houses. The then 14-year-old me and 6-year-old younger brother were left to live a homeless and vagrant life.

The Japanese government shall compensate us 20 million yen for the death of my mother according to the international law to strengthen the friendship between Japan and China.
