　　At 4 o’clock in the afternoon of August 4, several Japanese lawyers and journalists from Beijing, and journalists of Zhejiang Province totaling about four or five persons came to my home in a Santana car to invite me to go to Jinhua County Hotel to attend a discussion meeting (whose contents were about the atrocities of the Japanese Army on the Chinese territory in World War II, including raping, killing, arson, biological warfare against the Chinese people etc). 　　At 8 o’clock the next day (August 5), about eight or nine Japanese lawyers along with journalists from Beijing, and journalists from Zhejiang totaling about twenty people took a special vehicle to our humble village to learn about the true crimes of the Japanese Army in our village and surrounding areas in the WWII, they also took photos and recorded interview with war victim survivors (festered feet), at 1 o’clock in the afternoon they visited Congshan Village of Yiwu County to learn about the harmful impact of bacteria war brought onto the Chinese people.

　　Among the Japanese lawyers coming to my home for interview, one was named Masataka MORI, his lives at 21-150 Naganuma Cho, Ni-Chome, Shizuoka City in Japan, he said he is your best friend. Is that true?

I. Victim Ni Haicha　Female, Now 78, Residing at Lütangxia Village, Bailongqiao Town, Jinhua County
　　After Jinhua fell into the hands of the enemy, in early May 1942, large groups of Japanese Army came to live in our village (Hengdalu Village) totaling about over three hundred persons, back then about 10 lived in my home for long term. The Japanese Army broke our furniture to take the wood as firewood for their cooking, the furniture items being burned include: Two chests, one bed, 4 chairs, one table, one bed board, one trunk, one cupboard, they also dismantled floorboards of one upstairs room, and one door etc, the above articles were all burned by the Japanese Army.

II. Victim Ye Jiaolian’s grandmother, Female, Back then aged 31, Residing at Shuangpaiyao Village, Gufang Town, Bailongqiao Town
　　Jiaolian’s grandmother (namely mother of Genshou). In the mid-May of 1942 lunar calendar, because it was hot, two young women (i.e. neighbors) and Jiaolian’s grandmother were enjoying the coolness in their own yards, suddenly four Japanese soldiers showed up, when the Japanese soldiers saw two young women, they immediately came up to catch the two women, at this time the two women immediately fled. Since the Japanese soldiers were not familiar with the road, and unable to catch the two young women, so they returned to beat Jiaolian’s grandmother, who was pregnant at the time, she walked awkwardly, so very soon she was overtaken by the Japanese Army, the Japanese Army immediately beat her with stool legs, after beating and kicking, they escalated to beat my grandmother with gun barrel, in that night she developed stomachache and headache, on the next day she had a miscarriage, and died.

III. Victim Shi Naiyi　Female,　Back then aged 34, residing at Shijia Village, Nijia Brigade, Bailongqiao Town. After Jinhua fell into the hands of the enemy, on April 13, 1942 lunar calendar, my aunt heard that the Japanese Army would kill people and burn houses after coming to Jinhua, and would act barbarically, so she was very afraid of the Japanese Army, so on April 13 she immediately went back to her mother’s home to prevent the Japanese Army from random raping, her mother’s home was in Shijia Village, she must pass Linjiang Village before returning to her mother’s home, therefore she must first cross the Baisha Stream before arriving at Linjian, when she was crossing the stream, she was discovered by the Japanese Army. the Japanese Army saw my aunt had crossed Baisha Stream, and would soon arrive at Linjiang Village, the Japanese Army first gestured to her, then called out loudly, at this moment my aunt was very frightened at the sight of the Japanese soldiers, so she was bent on returning to her mother’s home to find shelter, at this moment the Japanese Army saw her ignoring the order, they became very angry, and immediately opened fire with rifle, the bullet hit her belly and she died on the spot, at that time my aunt was already eight month pregnant, as it turned out, the Japanese Army killed two lives through this vicious action.

IV. Victim Li Lianxiao　Female,　Back then aged 18, Residing at Tianmushan Village, Bailongqiao Town
　　After Jinhua fell into the hands of the enemy, on September 10, 1942 lunar calendar, the Japanese Army came to our village (Tianmushan Village) to capture laborers and rape women, loot military materials and pork pigs, chicken and ducks etc. When Li Lianxiao heard the Japanese Army came to our village to capture laborers, she immediately went to hide herself in the toilet, soon three to four Japanese soldiers intruded into our home to look for chickens and ducks, Li Lianxiao was discovered by the Japanese soldiers, the Japanese soldiers immediately raped her, she was gang raped by the Japanese Army, after raping the Japanese soldiers returned to Huangpuqiao gun turret. After Li Lianxiao was raped by four Japanese soldiers, her body was severely ravaged, and she was seriously traumatized, soon she fell ill, and died after ineffectual treatment.

　　On April 22, 1942 lunar calendar, the Japanese Army came to our village (Wushiping Village) to loot strategic materials, my mother then hid in the dark toilet, three to four Japanese soldiers intruded into our home to loot pork pig, at this time my mother was discovered by the Japanese Army, the Japanese soldiers wanted to rape my mother , my mother refused, then the Japanese soldiers savagely beat my mother’s chest and waist with gun barrel, my mother instantly fainted and collapsed on the ground, she only came to after rescue, because at that time there was no hospital in the countryside, plus medicine was not available, afterwards my mother’s illness deteriorated, soon the disease spread to vital organs and she died.

VI. Victim Ni Rongxin　Male,　an infant, Residing at Lütangxia Village, Bailongqiao Town, Jinhua County
　　In May 1942 lunar calendar, the Japanese Army built gun turrets on the mountain top at a small village near Lütangxia Village (i.e. Huangpuqiaotou Village), and stationed massive troop to prevent attacks of Chinese soldiers, it became a key front in the East Zhejiang battlefield, since then, they came to harass Lütangxia Village day and night, in this way, I felt very frightened and uneasy. On May 6, I was forced to carry my son (Ni Rongxin) to temporarily shelter in my mother’s home (Wushiping Village). Soon afterwards, several dozen Japanese soldiers came to harass Wushiping Village, and unexpectedly the Japanese soldiers intruded into my mother’s home to harass us, at this time my mother was carrying grandson (Ni Rongxin), the Japanese Army came up to rape my mother, my mother firmly refused. At this moment, the Japanese Army immediately beat my mother with gun barrel. The nephew (Ni Rongxin) in the hands of my mother was greatly frightened. After this incident, my son became seriously ill, because at that time the whole country was plunged into turmoil and chaos of war, no doctor was available in our village, and there was nowhere to get medicine, therefore the disease deteriorated, soon my son (Ni Rongxin) died.

　　On April 18, 1942 lunar calendar, the Japanese Army came to our village (Zhengyang village) to capture coolie, rape women, and loot strategic materials, after hearing the news, I immediately hid myself in a very dark corner in the pigsty in my home, but unfortunately I was discovered by the Japanese Army, at that time I was very frightened, but the Japanese soldiers wanted to rape me, I firmly refused, this was because on March 28 that year I had just given birth to a child, my private parts had not recovered. So the Japanese soldiers beat my chest fiercely with gun barrel, and hit my head with fists, since I was severely beaten by the Japanese Army, it caused a lifelong headache in the rest of my life, which defied medical treatment.
　　Additionally, when evading the Japanese Army I often hid in the mountains and in the field with wild grass, at that time the Japanese aircrafts often dropped bacteria bombs from midair as their biological warfare to harm Chinese people, since I walked in the open field and mountain bushes, my feet were also infected by the bacteria, soon my feet began to fester, which defied medical treatments, the result is that my festered feet accompanied my life, I cannot engage in work, which is very painful, I remained disabled in the rest of my life.

VIII. Victim Zheng Zuosheng　Male,　Back then aged 21,　Residing at Zhengyang Village, Bailongqiao Town, Jinhua County
　　On April 11, 1942 lunar calendar, Jinhua was occupied by the Japanese Army with force, in August on the lunar calendar the Japanese also built a gun turret on the mountain top near Huangpuqiaotou Village, which was guarded by massive troops, intending to prevent attacks by Chinese Army, the Japanese Army each day fired shells towards the place where Chinese army was stationed. On August 16, lunar calendar, the Japanese Army dispatched massive troops to burn all the houses in front of the gun turret, my home’s houses were all burned, only some flower room were left, back then we were forced to move into the flower house to seek shelter from rain and wind. On September 6 in the same year, when the Japanese Army’s gun turret in Huangpuqiaotou was firing shells toward Chinese Army’s place, one shell landed on my home’s flower house and exploded, At that time, my husband was sleeping on bamboo bed, the shell hit my husband’s back, instantly blood poured out, at that time the country was plunged into turmoil and chaos of war, no doctor was available, and there was nowhere to buy medicine, soon the disease spread to vital organs and the patient died. I managed to wash the wound with salt water, but the situation deteriorated each day, his body became emaciated, soon the disease spread to vital organs and he died.

　　On May 27, 1942 lunar calendar, the Japanese Army came to our village (Zhengyang Village) to capture laborer and rape women, loot pigs, cows, chicken, and ducks. At this time, I heard the Japanese Army again came to our village to harass us, I immediately fled to Maihai Temple to seek hideaway, fearing the Japanese Army would come to rape me, but this time my son as lying on the bed sleeping, I originally carried my son with myself, only at this time my son (Zheng Youde) was sleeping, unexpectedly three to four Japanese soldiers intruded into my home, the baby woke up, seeing strangers (Japanese soldiers), the baby cried very loudly, the Japanese soldiers immediately tossed the baby onto a porcelain plate, resulting in a big open wound on the baby’s head, blood rushed out, the baby instantly fainted on the floorunconscious. When I returned home and took a look in the room, my son appeared to be deadthe ground was covered with blood, at this moment, I felt as if my heart was pierced by ten thousand arrows, and felt extremely painful, later I tried to save my son, each day, but everything failed, he died on October 25, despite medical treatment.

　　On April 11, 1942 ,lunar calendar, Jinhua County was occupied by the Japanese Army with force, in the past the Japanese Army’s aircrafts often spread bacteria from midair onto the ground to harm Chinese people, my uncle (Ni Wenbiao) each day worked in the field, often he would hid himself in small bushes or forests in order to avoid being captured by the Japanese Army as laborers, for this reason his feet were infected by the bacteria spread by the Japanese Army, the feet developed malignant ulcer, because at that time there was no physician nearby to treat the disease, and there’s no place to buy drugs, the situation deteriorated day by day, the feet became festered, in September 1943 the disease spread to vital organs, and he died due to ineffectual treatment.

　　At noon on August 25, 1941 lunar calendar, three Japanese aircrafts hovered over Jiang Village and dropped bombs to destroy two storied houses in my elderly maternal aunt’s home, everything in the house including furniture, farming tools, grain, clothing and pork pigs, chicken and ducks were destroyed, total loss amounted to RMB 50000 yuan.

　　On August 15, 1943 lunar calendar, the Japanese Army stationed at Tangxi, Jinhua County, came to our village (Jiang Village) at about 8 o’clock in the morning to capture laborers, rape women, loot strategic materials and commit other crimes, at this moment my maternal aunt heard the Japanese Army came to our village, she immediately went out and hid herself in the field, but unfortunately she was discovered by the Japanese Army, several Japanese soldiers came up and wanted to rape my maternal aunt, my maternal aunt firmly refused, at this time the Japanese soldiers immediately flew into a rage, and pulled out the officer’s sword in his waist and stabbed at my maternal aunt, in the end my maternal aunt was immediately stabbed to death. Also five or six women standing nearby were all killed by the Japanese Army.

　　On the morning of September 22, 1943, lunar calendar, the Japanese Army’s troops came to our village to loot strategic materials, capture coolies, and rape women and commit other crimes, my younger maternal aunt heard the Japanese Army came to the village, she immediately went to mountain forest to seek shelter, at this moment when she was walking on the mountain path (below her was a stream, the water was flowing rapidly, plus it’s a precipice), at this time the Japanese Army’s cavalry approached, the Japanese Army deliberately urged the horse to kick her into the stream, because the flow was rapid and deep, my younger maternal aunt drowned in the stream.

　　On April 11, 1942 lunar calendar, Jinhua County was occupied by the Japanese Army with force, (soon Jinhua County totally fell into the hands of the enemy). People lived in extreme misery, there’s no guarantee for life and property. My grandfather Ding Changzhong feared the Japanese Army, and on May 6 in that year on the lunar calendar he fled to Lüxiantang Village to seek shelter, on the road he was discovered and killed by the Japanese Army. He was 59 when killed.

XV. Victim Teng Ruzun　Male,　Back then aged 58,　Residing at Rangchang Village, Bailongqiao Town, Jinhua County
　　On April 11, 1942 lunar calendar, after Jinhua County fell into the hands of the Japanese, the Japanese Army built gun turrets on the top of mountains near Huangpuqiao Village and deployed massive troops, aiming to prevent attacks by the Chinese Army. Soon the Japanese Army burned all houses and trees in front of the gun turret. On August 16 lunar calendar, large troops of Japanese soldiers collectively set fire to eighteen villages in front of the gun turret.
　　My father Teng Ruzun’s home had seven storied houses, four bungalows along with all farming tools, furniture, clothing (clothing of 11 persons in the home were all burned by the Japanese Army), more than 200 shoulder poles of grains in the home were all burned by the Japanese Army.

XVI. Damaged property Zhongfu Convent in Youxi Village, situated at Youxi Village, Bailongqiao Town, Jinhua County
　　On April 11, 1942, the Japanese Army attacked Jinhua County in three routes, soon Jinhua fell into the hands of the enemy, after the Japanese Army occupied Jinhua, they built several gun turrets on the top of mountains near Jiangshantou Village, then they also built several dozen gun turrets on top of mountains within several dozen li in the perimeter, so as to prevent attack by Chinese soldiers, the Japanese Army needed to burn and cut down all houses and trees in front of the gun turret in order to have clear sight of any attacking Chinese Army. Therefore in the evening of August 16, on lunar calendar, the Japanese Army dispatched 400-500 soldiers to burn and loot all villages in front of the gun turret, Youxi Village Zhongfu Convent was no exception, this temple was burned by the Japanese Army to destroy 18 bungalows, all furniture and grain in the houses (kitchen and toilet) plus Buddha Hall and bells, drums etc were all burned.

　　On April 11, 1942 lunar calendar, after Jinhua fell into the hands of the enemy, the Japanese Army each day came to harass Lütangxia Village, on that day the Japanese Army again came to Lütangxia to harass the villagers, my parents all fled to the small hill outside to seek shelter, but in my home my elder sister was still asleep on the bed, soon three or four Japanese soldiers came to my home to loot things, at this time my elder sister woke up, she saw four Japanese soldiers looting things frantically in my home, my sister was very traumatized, so much so that she became mentally unbalanced, and talked incoherently, and died a few days later

　　In August 1943, my elder brother was captured by the Japanese Army to work as coolie, because the work was tough, he inadvertently injured himself which left a hole on the sole, in the evening the wound developed a stabbing pain, on the second day he was unable to get up, in the afternoon a high fever developed, he shouted he felt extremely painful the whole day, and soon died.

　　In November 1943, when my second elder brother was cutting couch grass in the field, he was infected by the bacteria drug spread by Japanese Army’s aircrafts in midair, in the night he lay on the bed and developed a high fever, within several days he suffered from both vomiting and diarrhea, at that time the country was plunged into turmoil and chaos of war, no doctor was available, and there was nowhere to buy drugs, about one week later he died.

　　In October 1943, I lost two sons and one daughter, who were all directly or indirectly killed by the Japanese Army, since then, my father acted like crazy, and mumbled incoherently, later he was discovered by the Japanese Army, the Japanese Army immediately captured my father and took him to the Huangpuqiaotou gun turret, the Japanese Army beat my father with whip, followed by electric stick, and then used hounds to harass my father and threatened him, and that’s not enough, on the third day, he was transferred from Huangpuqiaotou gun turret to Shimen Village Japanese Army Headquarters to be killed, fortunately two chiefs of our village visited Shimen Village Japanese troop Headquarters to provide guarantee, in this way my father was released and allowed to return home, but after return my father became permanently disabled and was unable to work due to cruel torture by the Japanese Army.

XXI. Jiang Yongjian’s grandfather’s home had four storied houses, which were burned by the Japanese Army on June 5, 1942 lunar calendar, all furniture, farming tools, clothing and over 110 shoulder poles of grains in the home were burned by the Japanese Army, the estimated loss was more than RMB 300,000 yuan.

　　In the autumn of 1941, during the invasion period the Japanese Imperialism used aircrafts to spread biological warfare from midair in the area around Choucheng Town in Yiwu County – bubonic plague bacillus, at this moment in my home my younger sister Lou Youfang was infected by the plague bacteria, within several days my younger sister lost her life.

　　In 1941 before Yiwu fell into the hands of the enemy, the Japanese aircrafts bombed my hometown Yiwu, destroyed several hundred civilian houses, my home’s two two-storied houses (about 120㎡) on Beimen Street were also destroyed, soon the Japanese invaders occupied Yiwu County Town, our two destroyed houses were dismantled by the traitor Maintenance Association to be used as firewood for cooking, which made my whole family destitute and homeless, with no shelter, and lived on the streets.

undertaken by the invading nation being defeated to compensate for multiple serious crimes committed against the people and properties of the invaded nation, due to violation of laws of war and humanitarian rules during the war. After the WWII, Jews, Poland, and France all claimed huge amount of damage compensation on the ground of receiving Nazi persecution. (excerpted from the “Legal Daily”)

During the Anti-Japanese War period (i.e. May 25, 1942), among villagers of villages near Bailongqiao Town, Jinhua County, Zhejiang Province, when Jinhua County was occupied by the Japanese Army with force, Jinhua fell into the enemy’s hands, people suffered miserably, after that many people were killed by the Japanese Army, captured to work as laborers to dismantle railway before death, captured to work as laborers to build airport before death, or raped by the Japanese Army before death, the detailed names of the dead are listed below:
