The following is a true account of individuals who were directly or indirectly killed, or persecuted by the Japanese Army, along with houses, furniture, farming tools, grain, and clothing burned or looted by the Japanese Army during the Sino-Japanese war:
(1) Grandfather of Ye Youzhi (Huang Laosong) Male age 73 Residing at Chashanxia Village
After Jinhua fell into the hands of the enemy, on June 6, 1942 lunar calendar, several hundred Japanese soldiers entered South Mountain for a mopping-up operation, they fiercely attacked the Chinese Army, and set fire to all houses in our village. the invading Japanese Army burned one floral-decoration bed, one pair of crates, one half square table, 1 grain cabinet, 1 square table, 1 cupboard, four chairs, 2 jugs, 1 rice cabinet, clothing and bedding, all items were prized possession of my maternal grandfathers household. After cleaning of his household items, his house was burned down by the Japanese Army.
(2) Jiang Meiqiu Male, age uncertain Residing at Waiban Butou Village
After Jinhua fell into the hands of the enemy, on June 5, 1942 the lunar calendar, when the Japanese Army entered the South Mountain in a mopping-up operation, they passed our village (Butou Village). The Japanese Army forcefully dispatched civilian workers to plunder things in my home, at that time my parents refused to surrender their possessions, the Japanese soldiers immediately hit my father severely with gun barrel, seriously injured him, and left him unconscious. Since it was during the war, physician was available, medicine was not available. His injury deteriorated day by day, and became fatal when passed away on June 17.

(3) Wu Xiaoe Female, aged unknown Residing at Waiban Butou Village
After Jinhua fell into the hands of the enemy, on June 5, 1942 the lunar calendar, massive Japanese troops entered South Mountain for a mopping-up operation, they fiercely attacked Chinese Army. When the Japanese Army passed our village, they wantonly intruded into my home to plunder our belongings. My mother immediately demanded the Japanese Army to return her belongings. Instead, the Japanese Army immediately beat my mother’s chest and abdomen with gun barrel with force, until my mother nearly died. Because back then there was no hospital to seek medical treatment, and no drug was available, my mother passed away on June 11.
(4) Jiang Zhixian Female at present 66 Residing at Waiban Butou Village
After Jinhua fell into the hands of the enemy, on June 6, 1942 lunar calendar, massive Japanese troops entered the South Mountain to attack Chinese troops, and also set fire to all village houses inside the South Mountain, back then my home was looted by the Japanese Army, they looted over 100 silver dollars, which weighed over 15 catties, pewter ware weighing over 20 catties, one pork pig weighing over 150 catties, and the Japanese Army also burned three storied houses along with all furniture, farming tools, over 1200 catties of grain about, more than 20 pieces of clothing etc.
(5) Bao Qiulin Male at present 61 Residing at Wutong Village, Zhoucun Town
After Jinhua fell into the hands of the enemy, on June 1, 1942 lunar calendar, massive Japanese troops entered South Mountain for a mopping-up operation, they fiercely attacked Chinese Army, and set fire to all houses in our village. My home was a five storied building (namely three rooms and twin structure), three bungalows, two door frames, all furniture, farming tools, clothing, over 8000 catties of grain, about 100 catties of copper, over 130 catties of silver dollars, over 60 catties of pewter, two gold rings weighing 15.6 grams, more than 40 suits of clothing etc were all burned by the Japanese Army.
(6) Bo Wenkao Male at present 56 Residing at Wutong Village, Zhoucun Town
After Jinhua fell into the hands of the enemy, on June 3, 1942 lunar calendar, massive Japanese troops entered South Mountain for a mopping-up operation, fiercely attacked Chinese Army, and set fire to all village houses inside the South Mountain. My home was a three storied houses, and over 1800 catties of grain, more than 80 suits of clothing (because we had 8 persons in my home, everyone had 10 suits on average), over 100 silver dollars. All furnitures, and farming tools in the home were burned by the Japanese Army.
(7) Hu Jinfeng Female Five in that year Residing at Tanghui Village, Jiaxing County

After Jinhua fell into the hands of the enemy, in mid May 1942 lunar calendar, the Japanese Army came to Shimen Village to capture conscript, rape women and transport materials like bandits. At that time when the Japanese Army entered our village, my parents feared the Japanese Army very much, so my father led mother and younger sister and myself totaling four persons hurriedly fled to the west hall to hide ourselves, but my younger sister began to cry, at that time several Japanese soldiers passed the west hall and heard the noise in hiding, the Japanese soldiers immediately went to the west hall to make arrests. The Japanese soldiers took away my younger sister, at that time my mother knelt down to beg mercy, and pleaded the Japanese soldiers. Under such circumstances, the Japanese soldiers threw my younger sister forcefully onto the ground, because of such barbaric robber behavior, my younger sister died from the injury on the second day.
(8) Hu Xiaokang Male aged then at 34 Residing at Shimen Village
After Jinhua fell into the hands of the enemy, in mid May 1942 lunar calendar, when the Japanese Army entered our village to capture laborers, my father led all family members to hid in the west hall, because at that time my younger sister cried incessantly, the Japanese Army outside heard us, and immediately went to the hall to capture laborers, seeing my father, the Japanese Army immediately captured my father, because my father was a bamboo strip weaver handicraftsman, and was unable to do hard physical labor, seeing my father was weak in carrying the shoulder pole, he Japanese Army forcefully pushed my father aside, my father fell into deep ditch, and was seriously wounded, after returning home, by without proper medical attention, his injury deteriorated day by day, and he passed away soon after.
(9) Grandfather of Hu Jinde Male currently 109 Residing at Tanghui Village, Jiaxing County

After Jiaxing fell into the hands of the enemy, in November 1937, the Japanese Army indiscriminately set fire to five bungalows in my grandfather’s home, and then burned all furniture, farming tools, grain, and clothing in the home, then the Japanese Army robbed my grandfather’s one medium-sized cow, and one fat pig as food.

After Jiaxing fell into the hands of the enemy, in November 1937 when the Japanese Army indiscriminately set fire to my grandfather’s house, my grandfather was confined to bed due to severe illness, and was burned to death by the Japanese Army.

After Jiaxing fell into the hands of the enemy, in November 1937 when the Japanese Army indiscriminately set fire to my grandfather’s house, my grandmother also was burned to death. She was too week to run out of the house.
(12) Xu Xiaogou Male back then 23 Residing at Tanghui Village, Jiaxing County
After Jiaxing fell into the hands of the enemy, in November 1937 after the Japanese Army set fire to my uncle’s five bungalows, the Japanese Army also captured my uncle as a slave laborer, and brought him to other places; there was no news from my uncle even after the Japanese Army surrendered and returned. Note: According to fellow villagers captured by the Japanese Army together with my uncle, my uncle had already been killed by the Japanese Army.
(13) Bao Wenchan Male aged then at 16 Residing at Wutong Village, Zhoucun Town
After Jinhua fell into the hands of the enemy, on June 3, 1942 lunar calendar, massive Japanese troops entered South Mountain for a mopping-up operation. They fiercely attacked Chinese Army, and also set fire to all houses in our village. My elder brother was very frightened, so he immediately fled to outside of town to make a living. Soon my elder brother fled to Dongqian Village to make a living as a worker. After several days he was killed by the Japanese Army with gun.

After Jinhua fell into the hands of the enemy, on June 3, 1942 lunar calendar, massive Japanese troops entered South Mountain for a mopping-up operation. They fiercely attacked Chinese troops, so they burned all houses in the South Mountain. Back then all houses in our village were burned by the Japanese Army. At that time, items in my home burned by the Japanese Army included eight-immortals table, six-immortals table, cabinets, trunks, bedding rolls. The loss was tremendous.
(15) Liu Tianxing Male age unknown Residing at Zhangqiaotou Village, Quankou Village, Langya Town, Jinhua County.
After Jinhua fell into the hands of the enemy, on June 6, 1942 lunar calendar, massive Japanese troops entered South Mountain for a mopping-up operation, after the Japanese Army entered our village, they immediately committed all sorts of crimes including capturing laborers, setting fire, and killing people. The Japanese Army set fire to all our home’s three storied houses and two bungalows, and burned all furniture, farming tools, clothing, and grain. What’s more, the Japanese Army also captured 2 oxen, and 2 pork pigs as food.
(16) Father of Liu Tianxing Male aged not clear, Residing at Zhangqiaotou Village, Quankou Village, Langya Town.
After Jinhua fell into the hands of the enemy, on June 6, 1942 lunar calendar, the Japanese Army entered South Mountain for a mopping-up operation, fiercely attacked Chinese Army. The Japanese Army entered Shigong Village, Lanbei Town and began killing and burning. My home’s houses were all burned by the Japanese Army. My father was captured by the Japanese Army and beaten to death.
(17) Aunt of Liu Tianxing Female aged not clear, Residing at Shigong Village, Lanbei Town.
After Jinhua fell into the hands of the enemy, on June 6, 1942 lunar calendar, massive Japanese troops entered South Mountain for a mopping-up operation. When the Japanese Army entered our village, they began killing and burning. My aunt was grabbed by the Japanese Army, and she was gang raped by the Japanese Army to death.
(18) Uncle of Liu Tiancing Male aged not clear Residing at Shigong Village, Lanbei Town.
After Jinhua fell into the hands of the enemy, on June 6, 1942 lunar calendar, the Japanese Army troops entered South Mountain for a mopping-up operation. After the Japanese Army entered our village they killed and burned. My uncle was captured by the Japanese Army to work as a slave laborer. When he carried materials to Changlanbu Village in Xiaoshan County, he was killed by the Japanese Army.
