Mr. Tong Zeng:
How have you been? Busy at work?
After sending the last letter, I conducted a primary survey in my county during the vocation and my report is as provided below:
1. During 1941-1945, over 15,000 resident houses, over 1,000 cave houses and other countless properties were burned down in Chengzhong County.
2. During 1942-1945, aside from injury counts, over 5,000 people were killed by the Japanese army through ways such as shooting, burning and drowning, among which there were over 800 women and children.
3. 8 of the Chinese people captured and sent to Japan for hard laboring died there, and 5 are still alive.
4.I only found 4 women who were captured to blockhouses to sleep with Japanese soldiers.
Regarding 3 and 4 above, it’s difficult to obtain something useful in the places I went to, because some of the people there didn’t trust me, some were afraid to speak out, and some even made trouble for me. I wonder if you can give me a certificate or something to facilitate such surveys. If this will cause trouble to you, just forget I mentioned it. I will overcome all obstacles and spare no effort to do what I should for our cause.
I’ve signed the signature list received and attached it with the letter. Please tell me if it is appropriate.
Have you received the materials and information about six comfort women I sent last time? Please reply and tell me.
I apply to join you and am willing to be an initiator. I already mentioned it last time. Hopefully I can get your approval. (Zhang Shuangbing, male, 32 years old, college’s degree)
Yours faithfully,
