Demanding damage compensation from Japan. Our government has never given it up
While in 1972, the Chinese government relinquished “war compensation” demand from Japan, but it has never announced to give up “damage compensation” demand. The “Legal Daily” published on May 23 carried an article by youth jurist Tong Zeng, which explained the difference between the two kinds of compensation according to international law: “War compensation” refers to compensation for losses brought to countries being invaded by the defeated country when invading other countries; “Damage compensation” refers to compensation that must be undertaken by the defeated war-waging country to compensate for serious crimes committed to the people and properties of the invaded country in violation of laws of war and humanitarian principles during the war. After WWII, the Jews, Polish and French had all demanded huge amount of damage compensation on the grounds of enduring Nazi persecution. (Excerpt from the “Legal Daily”)

Gang raping of teenage girl
One day around the end of Spring in 1942 (the exact time is unclear), several Japanese soldiers stationed at Zhegan Line Primary School Tanganglou (today’s Tangya High School of Caozhai Town, in Jinhua County) coaxed two boys playing outside of our village (Baihetang Village, Caogang Town, Jinhua County, about a half mile away from the Primary School Tanganglou) to return to the village and lure the daughter of Jiang Shuangchao (age unclear, but still underage) to enter the gun turret. As it turned out she was stripped and gang raped by the Japanese soldiers. After that she was threatened not to speak out. The incident brought severe trauma to the mental and physical wellbeing of the underage girl. The Japanese soldiers’ beastly behaviors make one bristle with abhorrence.
