Claim for Compensation from Japan by Chinese Civilians
The Japanese Government:
On July 7, 1937, the Japanese imperialists waged full-scale invasion war against China, which brought unfathomable calamity to the peace-loving Chinese people, meanwhile it also brought heavy loss of lives and property damages to my family. I hereby demand the Japanese government to compensate USD30000.
On the day of Mid-autumn Festival of August 15, 1939 (lunar calendar), my father Min Shilin accompanied my mother Wang Zaozhen to Gupeitang, Peitangwu to look for the remains of my uncle-in-law Jiang Peifu (killed by the Japanese army). The Japanese Invasion Army arrested my father, brought him to the railway side of Fengshutang and killed him. After the Japanese devils left, villagers dug out 54 bodies from a pit, including those of our relatives Tong Yuesheng, Tong Yangsheng, Jiang Peifu, Jiang Shengqian and Jiang Oinqing’s mother-in-law……
On August 28 (lunar calendar), when my mother brought me to Fengshutang to look for my father’s remains, we witnessed the Japanese devils raping a middle-aged woman before throwing her into a pond, then killed her husband. Even their ten-year-old child was not spared. It was an absolutely horrible scene……. The Japanese soldiers burned down our only wooden house, and forced my mother to re-marry. My younger brother was tortured to death. How can they get away with these tons of bloody debts without compensations? Do you Japanese still have any trace of human decency?
On August 15, 1945, Japan, which instigated the WWII, surrendered as a defeated country. According to a series of international laws including “Yalta Agreement, Cairo Declaration and Potsdam Proclamation”…, etc., a defeated country that had instigated the war must be made liable for all losses of the people of the country sustaining war damages. As a defeated country that instigated invasion war against China, Japan therefore must compensate for all damages of the Chinese people. That is their irrefutable responsibility. Even Japanese expatriates in the US and Canada had received damage compensation from the US and Canada, the two victorious nations. So on what excuse can Japan refuse to provide damage compensation to the Chinese people who have suffered heavily from the Japanese invasion into China? We hereby request Japan to give it serious consideration, so as to facilitate long lasting friendship between China and Japan.
